Butterfly

Key Aspects

01
2 Kick every 1 Pull

Make sure for every butterfly stroke there is one kick when your arms are in front, and one kick when your arms are behind. This helps breathing, and stability in the stroke.

02
Breathing Early

When breathing in butterfly, it is important to make sure that the breath is taken as soon as the hands in front begin to start the stroke. This ensures the swimmer can put their head back down before re-entry into the water.

03
Every Stroke is a Dive

Every stroke in butterfly needs to have the swimmer keep their head down and arms in front on re-entry similar to a dive. This can often be heard at practice attempting to give a visual to the swimmers.

04
Bump Your Rump

Can also heard being said often in practice. When swimming butterfly your head and your butt are opposite. As soon as the head goes down, the butt goes up, and vice versa. This ensures a smooth butterfly kick, as well as helps tempo.
